Vintage Japanese Mingei Stoneware Vase - Hand Painted Fish With Metallic Yohen Bloom

This well kept  4 inch globular stoneware vase is masterclass in the Japanese Mingei (Folk-Art) tradition, It features a school of hand-painted fish rendered in a rich iron-oxide slip. While they appear deep umber in soft light, a direct beam reveals a stunning metallic "bloom" - a copper green iridescence born from the high temperatures of Kiln.

Coated in an heavy, cream-colored kanyu (crackle) glaze, the piece carries a wonderful 12.4 oz. heft. Look inside, and you'll find the "fingerprints of the flame"- small kiln-grit inclusions sealed beneath the glaze, proving its authentic, small-batched origins. It is a soulful piece of Mid-Century history or a  "Japandi" inspired collection  

The Alchemy of Kiln: while these stylized fish appear umber in soft light, the reveal a secret under brightness: a shimmering metallic green bloom. This is the result of mineral oxides reacting to the intense heat of kiln - a hallmark of high-quality  studio pottery that mimics the oxidized patina of ancient bronze, know as the "Green" effect.

The interior of the bowl features two small, glazed-covered kiln inclusions (grit). These are not post-production damage but are "Birthmarks" from the original firing, common in authentic studio-fire stoneware.
